Louis Comfort Tiffany studied ancient glass in his travels, also studying it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He loved the pockmarks and other deterioration that took place over centuries in the soil, which led him and his team to create new vases with pockmarks and an ancient look with "Cypriote" glass, such as this one.
