Louis Comfort Tiffany worked to develop Favrile glass after being strongly influenced by his 1865 trip to Europe; while in London, he visited the South Kensington Museum, where an extensive collection of Roman and Syrian glass made a deep impact on him and inspired him to improve on the quality of contemporary glass, including iridescent glass such as that found in this decorated vase.
