Set in platinum, this Art Deco ring is composed of diamonds and a domed, off-round Baroque natural freshwater pearl, with an articulated diamond and platinum shank. The central white pearl is flanked by bezel-set marquise-cut diamond shoulders enhanced with stylized round diamond leaves, and completed by the flexible shank of individual bezel-set round diamonds, all delicately millegrained throughout. This unusual ring, with its lustrous, creamy white pearl, and its imaginative and charming mount, is a playful and sparkling toy for the finger.

The highly reflective capacity, better known as luster, of the finest pearls derives from the structure of their nacre, the concentric layers of aragonite and conchiolin that surround the pearl’s nucleus. A smooth and blemish-free surface, combined with depth of nacre, creates crisp and bright reflections. Meanwhile, the aragonite crystals produce the iridescence known in the pearl trade as “orient," because they are exactly the right size to diffract and interfere with visible light, amplifying some wavelengths and cancelling out others.
