Daum Wheel-Carved Vase

A French Art Nouveau wheel-carved cameo glass bud vase by Daum, featuring eggplant and rose colored flowers against a purple and smoky rosey-hued ground. The wheel-carving technique was used frequently by creators of art glass during the1900s because it allowed them to generate the”whiplash” motifs and undulating and flowing lines associated with Art Nouveau. The method involved layering the glass and setting it aside to cool. The glass was then carved using a grinding wheel.
