An American Art Deco platinum bracelet with moonstones and sapphires by Tiffany & Co. The bracelet has 20 cabochon moonstones with an approximate total weight of 8.00 carats, and 127 round-cut Montana sapphires with an approximate total weight of 10.20 carats. Blue sapphires were discovered in Montana in the late 1800's by a gold miner working on one of the gravel bars on the Missouri River near Helena. When Tiffany's renowned chief gemologist Dr. George F. Kunz first acquired Montana sapphires in the 1880s, he declared them among the highest quality sapphires on earth. The most exceptional specimens reflect the blue wildflowers and open skies of the state in which they were discovered. In 1889 and 1900, these (Montana) sapphires took center stage at Tiffany's world's fair exhibitions.
